Linen & Velvet Cushion Care Guide

Cushions are a mainstay of any lounge or bedroom, they add comfort and style to your sofa or bed. However, it’s important that you care for your cushions on a regular basis, by plumping, rotating and cleaning. This will ensure they remain looking as great as they did when you bought them for years to come. Below is a handy guide that will help you look after your linen or velvet cushions.

How To Maintain Your Cushions

To prolong the life of your cushions we recommend that you plump them daily. By plumping your cushion you help to maintain their shape and ensure even wear and tear. To plump a cushion you should vigorously pat all sides to separate the feather filling and infuse air back into the cushion. It is advised that you do not thump your cushions as this has the potential to break the spine of the feathers and cause them spike out of the cushion cover. The final step to maintaining your cushion is to rotate them on a regular basis, this will ensure that the fabric is worn evenly.

To keep your cushion looking like new we advise that you consider the following:

  • Prevent sharp objects such as pet claws coming into contact with your cushion as this may cause tearing or snagging of the fabric.

  • Prevent liquids coming into contact with the fabric, this can lead to staining or discolouration.

  • Protect your cushions from direct sunlight, it may cause discolouring of the cushion fabric over time.

How To Clean Your Linen Cushions

As our linen cushions are manufactured from natural linens, we advise that they are hand-washed only with a non-biological detergent in cold water, not exceeding 30 degrees. Our cushions should not be tumble dried as this will cause shrinkage. Linen creases naturally, therefore we advise you to iron the cover gently on a linen setting. Before cleaning, ensure that you have removed the feather pad from the cushion cover.

How To Clean Your Velvet Cushions

Velvet cushions should be cleaned on a regular basis to keep them looking fantastic. We recommend that velvet cushions are vacuumed on a low power suction setting, removing all dust and hair from the velvet fibres. Following this, identify which direction the velvet fibres are woven in and using a soft or fabric brush, brush following those lines. Before cleaning, ensure that you have removed the feather pad from the cushion cover.

Is It Normal For Pilling To Occur?

Pilling is a natural occurrence and can occur as a result of normal daily wear. It should not be considered as a fault with linen cushions, the fibre pills can be removed with a pilling shaver or remover. We recommend
