We're excited to introduce you to our new Antique & Vintage Homeware collection. This collection includes one-of-a-kind pieces that have been sourced by us in small batches. We've hunted through antique markets and reclamation yards to find interesting and unique products that have a story to tell. With quality and sustainability in mind, we want to give these heritage pieces a new lease of life.
Here are a few of our favourite items we've found that have been hugely popular so far, and we can see why!
The Marmalade Jar
These genuine
Marmalade Jars date from the Victorian to Edwardian era; the time before glass jars were introduced as a cheaper alternative to ceramic packaging. While they're known as marmalade pots, these jars were originally used to store all kinds of preserved fruits. To seal them, a piece of paper would simply have been glued to the outside, which was then covered with either a wax paper or a cloth lid and secured by tying a piece of string around the groove at the top.
These marmalade jars have been salvaged from archeological digs and are therefore unique. Each jar shows some signs of age, such as the colouring and markings in the ceramic, but all are deemed perfect in their 'imperfect' way. Made from ceramic stone, the pots are hard-wearing which makes them a long-lasting addition to the home; such as storage for utensils in the kitchen, stationary in the office, toothbrushes in the bathroom, as a vase for flowers, or simply just used as a standalone decorative item.
The Wooden Brick Mould
Full of character and charm, t
hese Vintage Wooden Brick Moulds were traditionally used in India to make hand-moulded bricks. The clay would have been put into the mould, where it was then pressed, shaken and the brick would be taken out so it could lie in the sun to dry. These brick moulds are so versatile and we think they make the perfect use for a storage box or a caddy, whether it be in the kitchen, in the office, or just as a stand alone item displayed on a table or shelf.
The Brown Stoneware Bottle
Dating back to the 1890's, these dark brown
Vintage Stoneware Bottles with narrow neck and spout are full of charm and we're thrilled to have these included in our antique and vintage collection. Originally, these bottles would have been used for storing ink. A few of the bottles in the collection include a stamped mark of Lovatt & Lovatt Ltd, this suggests its origin is in the UK. The Lovatt & Lovatt brothers produced a wide range of stoneware at Langley Mill which was located in Derbyshire. The types of stoneware ranged from salt glazed ink bottles, domestic tableware, to high quality art ware. Each bottles has been used in a previous life and therefore show some signs of wear and tear, but we feel they would make a great addition to any home. Why not add a few stems of flowers, or simply add a few to a shelf to create a display!
Behind the scenes - hunting for treasures!
We get so much joy finding pieces that can be given a new lease of life. Here are a couple of photos from one of our recent fair trips.
Why buy vintage and antique items?
Not only can you discover something that holds a story from a previous life, it can also make your home look as though it has been curated over the years! Buying something old reduces your carbon footprint and is a cost effective way to buy decorative pieces for the home.
The item I like is out of stock, when will it be restocked?
As our Antique and Vintage collection is bought in small batches, stock can be limited and sell out very quickly, therefore if there's something you've got your eye on we recommend to purchase it, simply because once it's gone, it's gone. Make sure to sign up to an out of stock product, so you can be notified when it's back in stock. Sign up to our newsletter when we'll announce new finds have been added!
