Ted Thompson Hand Dipping Candles - Coates & Warner

The Moorlands Candles Story

Ted Thompson and his family have been producing hand dipped candles in Alston, Cumbria since 1981. When Ted first began producing candles he would hand dip wicks into molten wax in old oil drums, but now the family have moved on to specially designed equipment. Multiple generations of Ted's family work alongside him in their workshop adhering to traditional candle making techniques. Every candle is truly unique and thats why we love Moorlands Candles products.

Candle Making Process

Each pair of beeswax candles are produced using a counterbalanced circular metal carrousel, on which braided cotton wicks are threaded around screws at the top and bottom. These wicks are then dipped into molten, natural beeswax a number of times allowing the candles to cool between dips, slowly building up the wax around the wick.

Benefits of Beeswax Candles

Beeswax candles are made from natural, renewable ingredients that don't require chemical processing, this means they're non-toxic. Beeswax candles typically have a longer burn time than other wax types including paraffin and soy waxes, and have a wonderful, sweet honey-like scent. Beeswax candles can also help to improve indoor air quality by releasing negative ions that bind to positive pollutant ions. This can be especially useful in rooms where odours develop, such as in the kitchen.
